Ayn Rand said that emotions proceed from one’s cognitions, but she said little more about this topic. In this talk, Raymond Raad and William Schultz will draw on thepsychological literature on emotions so they can elaborate on Rand’s theory in two ways. First, they will discuss what emotions are and in what ways emotions can be caused by underlying beliefs. Then they will turn towards practical uses and discuss emotional awareness and the concept of emotional intelligence, and how they are important for being a rational person.
